So here are my thoughts on youth group rules. Do you have rules in your youth groups for couples? Are they allowed to hold hands, kiss? Why your youth group needs rules Rules bring clarity to all involved, be it parents, youth, volunteers, leaders, or church members. They have rules at school, when playing sports, at home hopefully! Try and use some common sense when you make the rules and suppress the urge to put every little thing into a rule. That being said, here are some issues that you may want to address in your rules: Make sure to list the rules on the part of the consent form that stays with the parents.

In a rather golden year for British television, full of good things and great things — off the top of my head Babylon, Not Safe for Work, London Spy the last episode apart , Critical, Count Arthur Strong, The Bridge, Top of the Pops repeats from are near the top of the list; feel free to add your own — one programme has stood a rather hunched head and shoulders over everything else in Mackenzie Crook’s sitcom is pure sunshine in a bottle. Watching it I was gobsmacked by the beauty of the English countryside and even considered buying myself a metal detector.
But the mere fact I considered it just shows you much I liked the programme, which is the most humane, lovely and funny thing. And clearly it attracts a better class of viewer. But don’t take my word for it. Rachael Stirling thinks so too and she’s in it.

The following is a guest post from Ally Spotts, author of the e-book, Asking All The Wrong Questions: Why Christians Are Waiting for Marriage for Sex.. It used to drive me crazy that people would talk about sex like it was the worst sin in the universe. I grew up in the church.

I grew up in the church. I did and kept them in a box under my bed. But as I got older and started dating I discovered that there were all kinds of tricky loopholes to the whole virginity thing. You could mess around with a dozen guys, do everything except sex, and you were still allowed to call yourself a virgin. What was the point of waiting for marriage for sex if we were just going to fool around with our boyfriends? Was there a point?

David Wolfe a Fellow on September 11, , conferring on him the highest academic and scientific award available in Canada. Wolfe was honoured for the ground-breaking work demonstrating that a modern health curriculum in Ontario could reduce youth risk behaviours concerning sexual behaviour and relationship violence. In an ironic twist, the day the RSC announced the award, children in Ontario were returning to schools under an outdated health curriculum. Wolfe and his colleagues at Western University named the program The Fourth R, emphasizing the importance of building strong and healthy relationships in keeping children and youth safe.
Fourth R strategies, taught in Health and Physical Education by classroom teachers, reduce dating violence and delay the start of risk activities such as drinking, drugs and sexual activity. This innovative curriculum is now available from Grade 7 through 9, and includes lessons on positive mental health and development.
To learn more about Dr. Wolfe’s election to the Royal Society of Canada, click here. The Fourth R responds to Ontario Health and Physical Education Curriculum changes July 26, The Fourth R does not believe that it is in the best interest of the well-being of Ontario students to revert back to the sexual health curriculum. This outdated curriculum does not explore many issues faced by students today nor does it equip our youth with the knowledge and skills to develop healthy relationships and explore the many concepts connected with mental health.
Although we always welcome the opportunity to contribute to curriculum consultations and think it is a good idea to improve on existing curriculum, we do not think it should be done when it compromises our students learning and development. We urge the Ontario Government to keep the current Health curriculum including the Human Development and Sexual Health content in place until after the proposed review is completed.

What Would You Do? An Activity for Youth Groups This activity presents students with different social justice-related scenarios, and requires them to work together to create responses. It is best for students who have some experience with Catholic social teaching and specific justice issues, as it involves the application of concepts in a practical way. The activity is the most effective when the participating students have completed direct service to the poor recently.
After working at a soup kitchen, housing rehabilitation group, nursing home or any other agency involved in service to the poor, this activity provides a way to move from doing service to thinking about – and in turn doing – social justice. Often, when students see poverty firsthand, they become inspired to do something about it.
The activity, however, can also be completed apart from direct service. Print copies of the three scenarios, bearing in mind that each group of students will need one copy of any of the scenarios one scenario per group. Make sure each group will have ample paper and writing utensils. If students are not familiar with sweatshops or fair trade, consult the provided resources and prepare to brief the students on these concepts before the activity.
Also read over the “Possible Responses” page, which provides sample responses to the scenarios. Please note that these provided responses are just several possibilities among a countless number, and are only included to generate ideas so that the instructor might ensure that the students are on the right track. Divide students randomly into groups of
